Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport Information

Winnipeg’s airport is officially named Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and it is Manitoba’s busiest airport, serving between three and four million passengers each year. It is an important transport hub for the region due to its status as the only commercial international airport in the province and it hosts an intercity bus station.   The main passenger terminal at Winnipeg was chosen by the Travel Channel in 2012 as one of the world’s most iconic airport terminals. It has US Border pre-clearance facilities and can operate 24 hours a day. Built between 2007 and 2011 to replace the original building, it was the first airport terminal in the country to be LEED-certified for environmental friendliness. Two regional airlines flying from the airport have their own small terminal buildings separate from the main passenger terminal. Customs and Security   International visitors entering Canada through Winnipeg must declare any and all food, plant and animal products due to restrictions on some of these items. Restrictions change constantly and vary between provinces, so check the rules before travel and be sure to declare! Prohibited items include the usual items- unlicensed weapons, illegal drugs and explosives.   Security procedures are in place for all flights to ensure the safety of all passengers. Screening of both bags and people will take place before you board your flight to ensure that no dangerous items are being taken onboard. The primary object of these checks are weapons or potential weapons. Liquids, aerosols and gels should be carried in containers of less than 100 millilitres, and should collectively be enclosed within a clear resealable plastic bag of no more than one litre capacity.
